Used is way over priced in general it seems right now with a few exceptions, at least IMO. I might have to go new. So far my new short list is a KLX300 or CRF300l, or maybe even a lowly KLX230. There is, however, a like new with 780 miles KLX250 near me. If the price were right would that be as good a buy as a new 300? What would be considered a good price? Would I regret not getting a 300 vs a 250/230? I'm about 6' and about 225 naked. Bike would be used on dirt roads and street. No real technical riding. There is also a '08 CRF230l about an hour and a half from me for $2800. Should that be a contender? EDIT 230l is sold. I guess that was a good price as it sold quickly. Get the like new 250. It's a couple hp different than the 300, otherwise same/same. At your height and size It's a better fit than a 230 Price is key. The klx300 is great, but I have no idea compared to the 250. The 300 may have a little better resale if needed. I really like my klx300. , but I bought it used with a few miles on it and every farkle I wanted already installed. 250 with a tailwind > 300 without markk53 jack of all trades... Super Supporter $179 AHL299cc kit can help level the playing field. If the 250 is carbureted, a $180 new Mikuni TM36-68 kicks the power up even more and really quick response. How does a Himalayan stack up, or just way out in left field? Your gonna want that KLX300 The 230 will be fun, but unless your riding local to home, it will bore you quickly. The 250 is great, but the 300 does well with keeping up with anything but KTMs off road and on road it will tour easily and keep you going. Join Team Green! My observations so far, the KLX felt cheesier and "cheaper" than the Honda. To my surprise, I felt most comfortable on the XT250. Try this review of the xt250.
